About

Amanda Khorramabadi is an Emmy award-winning video journalist, editor, camerawoman and producer born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama.

For seven years, she created original visual journalism for AL.com, producing hundreds of social media and documentary-style videos that brought Alabama’s biggest stories to life — from breaking news and politics to civil rights history, environment, and culture. Her work has been recognized by the Alabama Press Association and praised by organizations like the Equal Justice Initiative for its clarity, depth, and storytelling impact.

Amanda specializes in making complex information easy to understand and engaging for everyday audiences. Her videos have reached millions across YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X and Instagram, with standout projects including “Denied: Alabama’s Broken Parole System,” “Pulled over Pulled Under” and “What Harm am I Doing?”- featured on “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.”

Her storytelling is deeply rooted in the South—its people, contradictions, and resilience—and shaped by her Iranian-American heritage. As the daughter of an immigrant, Amanda brings a layered, empathetic perspective to every story she tells. Growing up Middle Eastern in the Deep South taught her both awareness and compassion—what it means to feel different, to navigate belonging, and to understand the lives of those who don’t fit the “traditional” Southern mold. That dual lens fuels her curiosity and open-mindedness, allowing her to see each subject through both insider and outsider eyes, making her work more human and deeply connected.

When she’s not behind a camera, Amanda’s probably at the dog park with her standard poodle, Doodles.
